We’ve taken a short break in the new year to rebuild and reassess the site’s aims, goals and remit in the new year. Our founding editor moved on from the role in December, but he put together this piece on the site’s first year which you can read here.

Going forward, we’re now very happy to announce we’re accepting applications for the position of site editor. If you are interested, please send a CV and covering letter to editor@conter.co.uk by Thursday 18th April, with interviews to be held shortly afterwards.

CONTER WEBSITE EDITOR (£700 PCM)

This is a part-time role to manage the Conter editorial team, generate articles and debate for Conter, manage the website content, and develop Conter as appropriate, potentially including podcasts and Conter public meetings. All applications will be considered, and we strongly encourage applications from RISE members. As the site is funded by RISE members, applicants should show demonstrable commitment to the group’s organisational methods, objectives and long terms goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Continue to develop a social media strategy

  • Develop a wider engagement strategy for Conter

  • Work with the Editorial Board to source high quality content

  • Publish content on website and display on social media

  • Convene meetings where appropriate to discuss content and website strategy

  • Produce a monthly digest of articles and web content to be e-mailed to RISE members and website subscribers

  • Look for opportunities for interviews with writers, academics, social commentators, authors, activists, trade unionists, issue campaigners, left-wing strategists, economists, and experts

  • Report to RISE National Assembly on our online reach and interaction

Key Skills:

  • Highly skilled at social media organising

  • Ability to lay out content and upload to a variety of platforms

  • Ability to connect articles with graphics and images

  • An in-depth knowledge of current affairs

  • Well educated in socialist politics, history and theory

  • A background in journalism/ media (desirable)

  • A basic understanding of media law, journalistic ethics and relevant editorial codes

  • Substantial knowledge of the Scottish left in line with RISE policy

  • An acute understanding of the current debates on the left here and internationally

  • Engaged with other left-wing websites and analysis e.g. Jacobin

  • High quality editing skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to encourage debate
